Refunds and cancellation

How to cancel a kit order, a fabrication job or a competition entry, and what you get back in each case.

Blocked on an unmade decision

This page cannot be finished yet, and the reason is not legal review — it is that whether this site takes payments at all has not been decided. If the site only ever captures enquiries and invoices separately, most of what follows should be deleted rather than completed. It is drafted here so the shape of the obligation is visible while that call is made.

Three different things, three different rules

A boxed kit, a bespoke fabrication job and a competition entry are not the same transaction, and treating them under one refund rule would be either unfair or unaffordable. They are separated below.

1. Kits

A stock item in an unopened box is the straightforward case: a cooling-off window, returned at your cost unless it arrived faulty, refunded once it is back with us.

To be settled before publication
Cooling-off window[statutory minimum for the chosen jurisdiction, plus any goodwill period]
Condition required[unopened, or opened-but-complete]
Return postage[who pays, and whether that differs for faulty goods]
Refund method and timing[original payment method; number of working days]
Faulty or damaged on arrivalAlways our cost to put right. [Reporting window to be set.]

2. Fabrication and consultancy

Bespoke work is different in kind. Once material is cut or a design has been produced to your specification, it cannot be resold, so a full refund after work has started is not something we could offer honestly.

The fair structure is a staged one: cancel before work begins and you are refunded in full less any deposit already consumed by design time; cancel during and you pay for what has been done. The specifics — [deposit size], [what counts as "started"], [the rate applied to work completed] — need setting.

If the delivered part does not meet the agreed tolerance, that is not a cancellation but a remake, at our cost.

3. Competition entry

Entry fees, if there are any, sit against costs that are committed early — venue, judges, materials — so a late withdrawal cannot usually be refunded in full. Needed: [whether entry is paid at all], [refund tiers by date], [whether a team place can be transferred instead], and [what happens if we cancel or postpone the event].

If we cancel an event, entrants should be made whole. That principle can be stated now even though the mechanics cannot.

How to start a cancellation

Until an account system exists, cancellation is by message: use the contact form and pick the topic matching your order, or write to [orders contact address] quoting your order or entry reference. We will confirm in writing.
